For the past six years, Wisconsin state legislators have passed laws that take information and options away from a woman and her family. These laws disregard medical science, the wellbeing of patients, and the patient-doctor relationship. This unprecedented political interference with a woman’s personal health care decisions undermines women’s health in Wisconsin. Sadly, Congress and the President are only worsening this trend on the national level.
Wisconsin women and their health care providers deserve better!
It’s time to introduce a bold, proactive reproductive health agenda in Wisconsin to push back against these state and federal attacks on access to comprehensive care. We’ve been on the defensive for too long. In fact, since 1973, Wisconsin has passed more than 20 laws against abortion, including laws that force physicians to provide women with medically inaccurate or unnecessary information, delay her decision, require tests she doesn’t need, and impose medically unnecessary requirements on consent, reporting, and physician admitting privileges.
The RESPECT Women Act promotes a vision that a woman has the ability and support to make her own reproductive healthcare decisions free from harassment, intimidation, political interference, or false information. That’s something we can all believe in!
