Most Wisconsinites don't realize that our state still has a 172-year old law on the books that makes providing an abortion a felony offense in Wisconsin subjecting doctors to jail time. While the 1973 Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade made Wisconsin's archaic law unenforceable, if Roe v Wade falls, abortion is immediately banned in our state.
State Representative Subeck and Senator Roys have introduced the "Abortion Rights Preservation Act" that would repeal the Wisconsin abortion ban. We urge our legislators to support this bill and immediately take action to repeal this ban and ensure all women are able to control their bodies and their healthcare decisions. The threat to Roe v. Wade is very, very real and thus the threat to Wisconsin women’s access to abortion is on the line. The time to take action and make sure abortion care is available in our communities, is right now.
